Vocation: Not that again!
There are three levels of Vocation Ministry in the model that is used widely in the church today. Some of us are concerned with all three, others with one or two levels, depending upon our own ministry at the moment, lifestyle and interest.
General Vocation Ministry - fostering a sense of service to others and by our example providing models of adult Christian behaviour. This is based upon the understanding that there is a universal call to holiness by virtue of our Baptism and Confirmation and that our role in the world and the church cannot be replaced.
Particular Vocation Ministry - acknowledgment that we are all called to a particular style of loving as in marriage, religious life, single life or priesthood. Our task here and more especially the Catholic Vocations Centre, is to act as a resource, a clearing house for anyone looking at any of these particular expressions of response to the call of God. The Christian community in its entirety is responsible for the awakening, the discerning and the fostering of various vocations to the priesthood, the religious life and the active Christ-life for all age groups.
Specific Vocation Ministry - some individuals are called to very specific and unique expressions of consecrated and ordained life. It is normal for any congregation/diocese to make itself known and to encourage vocations to the specific group.
Assignment:
After reading the about the various types of vocations, where do the ones that you read about at the websites you visited fit? Explain how each one fits the category you chose for it.
Write this in 4-5 paragaphs. Anything less will not be accepted for a grade.
Whatever you do, do not close you minds to vocation. You may be called to serve the Lord in so many ways. Listen to him and answer the call.
PS: Don't forget to pray in silence! Let God talk to you...he is waiting for you.
Mr. R :o)

the consecrated virgins belong under the specific vocation, because these are individuals who are called to a specific ordained life. the consecrated vigins is one of the oldest sacramentals in the church. after renewing her promise of perpetual virginity to God they are set aside as a sacred person who belongs only to christ. consecrated virgins can be anyone.
the lay mission helpers belong under the General Vocation Ministry because its a sense of service to others providing models of adult Christian behavior. they are the Catholic lay people called through baptism to mission. they are people who work togehter to live a simple life close to the poor.
the Franciscan Friars belong under the particular vocation ministry because the are called to a particular style. there mission is to serve the poor especially the homeless and all service is free. they preach and teach the Holy Gospel and share the Catholic faith with all....
i admire all those who are serving one of these vocations, because its hard to see yourself doing these things. i mean, especially in the kind of soceity we have today, its difficult to want to become apart of something wonderful as being a consecrated virgin... well i do have a calling and that is to be married and have kids... thats what i am truly called to be...
I think that consecrated virgins would be put under a specific vocation ministry. Consecrated virgins are woman who are living in the world who have never been married and live a life in chastity. They volunteer their time to their local parishes or volunteer in their communities.
Lay mission helpers I think would be placed in General vocation ministry. Lay mission helpers are lay people who help those in need, for example the poor. They are called through their baptism which makes them a part of the general vocation ministry. These people are teachers, social workers, nurses etc. They provide service to those in need.
Lastly, the franciscan friars i would put them under the particular vocation ministry. This vocation is a group of people whose calling was the religious life and thats what makes them a particular vocation minister. They too help the poor and they share our faith with others.
This was pretty interesting. Just until now I didn't know how many vocations were there. It did take me awhile to understand but I guess I sort of get it now. What all three have in common is that they all somehow help the community and the people not because they have to but because they want to and because this is there calling.
Consecrated virgins should be under "specific vocation ministry"! Only because this shows how we should live a Christian life in chastity! I think that the world would be a more patient one if people just respected virginity and not abuse it like it already has! People in this vocation show great dignity and hold strong self-control! I'm not saying all of us should be called to this vocation because we are called to do many different things in this lifetime!
The lay mission helpers should in deed go under the "general vocation ministry" because these people help not just a group of people but the world as a whole! They don't just reach out to people they know personally but go out of their way to help others that they don't even know! I think this is one of the many hard things to do in life! I mean, I can't sit here and say I'm willing to help hundreds of people I don't even know! That's something special!!!
Now, franciscan friars would be put under "particular vocation ministry" because these individuals help the poor! They give housing to the less fortunate when they need it the most! They foster these people who have no one else!
For me, this blog has, once again, made me think about what am I called to do in life?! I really don't know what I'm doing with my life as of now! I sit here thinking that, while nuns and priests are praying for my soul, I'm just letting life pass me by! I don't think that's quite appealing for God now! LoL...but seriously...if I were to go into one of these things, I would honestly go under the lay mission helpers! I'm not saying it would be an easy job but I would love to see myself actually make a difference in a life that I don't even know! I would like to see a big bright smile on an innocent strangers face because of me! To know that I've done that makes me feel like everyone has a unique perpose in this world! I am still trying to find mine!
Thanx for the blog Sir...U've opened my eyes once again...I'm forever thankful! =D
Ok well first of all Mr. Reyes…it’s really hard to get into these blog things. This blog was also very lengthy. Ok well I shall get started…I think that the consecrated virgins site would go with specific vocation because well…being a consecrated virgin is a unique way of expressing yourself (in an ordained life style way). I mean everyone is special but being a consecrated virgin is just a specific calling and it’s a calling from specific people to specific people. They go to the virgins, they reach out.
To me Franciscan friars looked like it would go under Particular vocation because they acknowledge that they are called to a particular style of loving through religious life. They act as a resource to the congregation to provide information about the higher power. They also act as a guiding force for the PEOPLE not just a “specific” group but to all people. They go out and converse with others and they provoke the holy spirit within us to lead and live a better life.
Lay mission helpers seemed to go under general vocation because helpers are providing examples of adult Christian behavior. In their name “lay MISSION helpers”, it’s a universal call to holiness by virtue of our Baptism and Confirmation. They help set standards for our outside lives the whole get married before sex or be slightly conservative. I say “slightly” conservative because you have to be human and live life but you don’t have to dress like the women in Israel where they’re all covered up because it’s disrespectful for their faces to be shown to others, it’s dishonorable to the husbands.
i think that these people are hardcore but i cant keep still so i cant make a decision at this moment but i doubt im going to make a decision later i cant be caught in one thing i need to be active and if im not active im lost. i just need to be human and a mistake (not in a bad way but ill explain that later) good evening.
In my opinion, I would say that the consecrated virgins would fall under the specific vocation ministry. They are called to specific and unique expressions in consecrated and ordained life. They are called specifically to reach out to virgin women. They send their message for women to value their virginity. They believe that virginity is very sacred.
The lay mission helpers would fall under the particular vocation ministry. They are just regular people who try to help others with what they have. These people have it put upon themselves the responsibility to use their life skills to help those who are in need. They believe that simplicity is the way to live their lives. They share what they have to the poor people.
The Franciscan Friars would probably fall under general vocation ministry. They serve just about everyone and also an example. Their mission is to live and preach the holy bible. They would go out of their ways to visit people who are in desperate need of their help. They share what they have to those who are in need. They also serve others spiritually.
This blog about vocations is really interesting. I never knew that there was so much vocation. I have a tremendous amount of respect for these people who are in these vocations. They have dedicated their lives to serve others and God. I also admire them because it is not an easy thing to go out of your way to help, serve and give your time to those who are in need. This really motivated me to help others. I don’t have to go big, but every little I do for others may help.
I think the consecrated virgins fall under specific because they have a specific role, they pray and spend most of their time in private. They were called to do something specific which is praying in private and if they do other things it's associated with the church. ( i guess they're not that social because they have specific duties)
I think the lay mission helpers are particular vocation misnistry because they aren't all called to be priest, nuns, brothers or sisters, most are married or have families. I think they belong in this category because they may not live the ordain lifestyle but the practice all the teachings and the spreading of the word. I feel that people still live an ordain life without actually living it. SOme of the people are doctors and etc but they understand that part of their goals are to spread the word of God and they were able to put that in with their dreams.
The franciscan friars are part of the particular vocation ministry because they have a certain calling which is to serve. In the slide show i saw a man standing outside the abortion clinic offering counseling to the people who came out and i feel that that's what's needed. "COndemn the sin not the sinner". Trust me i feel abortion is horrible and should never have been started but that is why i am glade that there's people like the frnaciscans who can go out and be able to still want to help them. The franciscan i feel are called to serve the poor and counsel the confused. They are out their helping people find their way and finding their way can help lead the to hearing God's call.
I think this was a very very very long blog but worth it. Sometimes we all may not know what God wants of us and at least now we know what we could possibly want to give to God. I think the most interesting is the lay missioners because these people are married and possibly were still able to meet their dreams such as being a doctor or teacher but they were still able to live the life that was called to them by God. I hope in the future i can find ways to use my dreams to help fulfill my calling from God like these people did. Thanks Mr. Reyes!
Lay mission helpers was the site that caught my attention. For a while I wanted to join the priesthood, but used it to be my form of escape from relationships and the harshness of the world. I always wanted to serve God the best way that I could and I thought that the priesthood would be my calling but I don't have the patience for that I guess. I thought that the only way to serve God fully was either to get married or join the priesthood. Now I have found that you can serve God even better through utilizing your skills in the world around you.
Lay mission helpers are lay people that go to other countries to help the needy. The "L.M.H." as I would call it, hires people from different majors to help the needy. Even though I said they hire people I believe that the lay people give to god through devoting themselves to other people without accepting any payment.
I guess that lay mission helpers fall under the category of a general vocation ministry. They use their sense of service to provide an example to christians through giving themselves to others. This is a universal call to holiness because they need to call people from various types of careers to do the holy mission. Lay people can do that more freely because they specialize in the fields needed and will probably know more about it than priests if it were only the priests that served all the time.
Vocation is an old topic for me. I am not as enthused with this one as I was before about it. I think it's because I no longer believe that this is my calling. I don't believe that Vocation is anyone's calling in our class. It's an interesting topic just not my kind of topic anymore. If I were to serve the lord I would do it through helping others with my specialized trait. Vocations do not seem to present itself to me.
