“God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him” (1 Jn 4:16).
The Holy Father's first encyclical was entitled: "God is love"
Here is a little portion of what he said:
In a world where the name of God is sometimes associated with vengeance or even a duty of hatred and violence, this message is both timely and significant. For this reason, I wish in my first encyclical to speak of the love which God lavishes upon us and which we in turn must share with others.
The unity of love
God’s love for us is fundamental for our lives, and it raises important questions about who God is and who we are. In considering this, we immediately find ourselves hampered by a problem of language. Today, the term “love” has become one of the most frequently used and misused of words, a word to which we attach quite different meanings.
Love of God and love of neighbor are thus inseparable; they form a single commandment. Love grows through love. Love is “divine” because it comes from God and unites us to God; through this unifying process it makes us a “we” which transcends our divisions and makes us one, until in the end God is “all in all” (1 Cor 15:28).
Charity: a responsibility of the Church
Love of neighbor, grounded in the love of God, is first and foremost a responsibility for each individual member of the faithful, but it is also a responsibility for the entire ecclesial community at every level: from the local community to the particular Church and to the Church universal in its entirety. As a community, the Church must practice love.
For the first part of this entry, I would like you to reflect on how God has shown his love to you in your life.
Be sure to take a few moments and pray about it. You will be amazed the ways he has shown his love for you.
For the second part of this entry, think of the ways you have shown God's love. What ways have you done your best to show God's love to your neighbor?
We as Christians, particullarly Roman Catholic Chrsitians, are blessed to have such wonderful examples in our Saints. Those who come to mind are Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, St Maximillian Kolbe, and many more. These men and women have shown us how we can, as regular people, can show His love to all of those we come in contact with in our lives.
Finally, Reflect on this little story:
A Farmer's Wise Words: My dad didn't say much, but it was enough to change my life.
by John Buentello
It had been a week of one endless chore after another on the farm for my father and me—making repairs on the house, trying to get the meager little patch of ground ready for planting, and digging a new well to replace the one that had become contaminated. By the end of the week, we were exhausted, ready for a day of doing nothing.
My father packed us a lunch of jelly sandwiches and fresh apples, and told my mother that we were going to spend the day inspecting the hill. The hill was a sloping run of ground behind the farmhouse, the beginning of a range of hills in Texas that ran several miles to the north.
It was a favorite place for us to escape to; a spot where we could relax and talk.
This particular day, there wasn't too much talking going on. We trekked up the hill in relative silence, commenting on how hot it was and how much farther we had to go before we could break for lunch.
When we finally arrived at our favorite clearing, I was ready to just lay back and go to sleep. Instead, I couldn't take my eyes off our house—so small from this vantage point.
There have been so many changes for our family, I thought. Things have always been tight, but this has been an especially hard year.
I felt good about finally being old enough to pitch in and do my fair share of the work. At the same time I also wanted to be reassured everything was going to be all right. I wanted to know that what I counted on in my world wasn't threatened.
Dad must be thinking the same thing, I thought, glancing at him. Yet he seemed perfectly at peace sitting beside me. All I could see was a year of worry, a year of back-breaking work trying to hang on to what we had.
Dad's secret to happiness"Dad," I asked as he handed me a sandwich and a slice of apple. "Why
aren't you unhappy?" His answer was important to me.
"What should I be unhappy about?" he replied.
I looked back down at the farmhouse again and shrugged. "Everything, I guess. There doesn't seem to be anything we can count on anymore. We can't count on the weather. We can't count on being able to sell everything we grow. We can't even count on the water coming out of the well. Everything is changing."
My father nodded and stared out at the sky beyond the hill. He didn't say anything, just sat there mulling over the things I'd said. Finally he looked at me.
"I know what you mean. Sometimes I feel like things are changing so fast that I can't keep up."
"I feel like that, too. How do you stand it?"
With a knowing smile, he pointed to the sky. "I remember. I remember that even though everything in the world seems like it's never going to stop changing, there's one thing that always stays the same."
"What's that?"
"God's love for us," he said. "That's something that's always there. That will never change."
That was Dad's secret, I realized. No matter how crazy the world was around him, he knew the one truth that would never change: God loved him.
Since that day I have tried to live by that truth. There have been many changes—both good and bad—in my life since that afternoon on the hill. But I often think of that day with my father. For a day set aside to do nothing, a lot happened.
Love you and Be safe!
God Bless,
Mr. Reyes :o)

Love sought is good, but given unsought is better.
~William Shakespeare~
How has God shown me Love?
God has shown me love in many ways. I find it in the enjoyment of the simplicity of life. I find it among a few friends that have been my there for me when times are bad. I find it in the people who care for me. I find it in the smiles of those whom I bring laughter. I guess I find it in many things. Love shown by God, however, is not shown through what he does for us when we ask it. For example, "God,if I do well on this test I will be a better catholic." I think he gives us the inspiration to do well, we just have to meet him half way and study. People have their own definitions of how God shows them love, but God shows us love when he lets us have a good morning and he shows us love through the people that care about us.
How Do I show Love to God?
I think I show love to God by not being the person to display hatred. There's enough of that in the world, why do you need to see it in me? I show Love by being a Good listiner. Someone said in class that people don't need advice, but they need someone to listen to their problems, and I offer that service. I show love by caring deeply for specific people in my life. Caring for the well being of others and caring for their future shows my love to God. I show it in many ways you just have to be around me to see it. Chivalry is not dead, people just don't have the guts to do it. So I challenge all boys to being chivalrous to the ladies, I guess that's one way of showing Love to God.
It is not love of self but hatred of self which is at the root of all troubles that afflict our world.
~Eric Hoffer~
Where Love Reigns, there is no will to power, and where the will to power is paramount, then Love is lacking.
~Carl G. Jung~
In Love we Discover the Good qualities of our loved one which are hidden from other people.
~Gerald Brenan~
What Love is, if thou wouldst be taught, thy heart must teach alone Two Souls with but a single thought
Two hearts that beat as one.
~Friedrich Halm~
God has shown us his love in many ways. First of all he's given us our life and we've gotten to wake up to a new day. He's provided everthing we need to survive.
Sometimes we get the feeling that God doesn't love us or care because of the bad things that happen in our lives. But look at it from a different point of view. He lets those things happen so we can learn from them, if he didn't love you, why would he want to teach you?! For example, when you learn how to ride a bike for the first time, your mom or dad (they love you) held you so you could keep your balance. Then after a while they'd let go, then you fall, they don't always come and pick you up, you get up on your own.
I wish I could say that I have fully given back the love that God has given to me, but I can't. I don't think I could justify the love he's given me. His love is greater and will always be.Sometimes saying "I love you" to God (or anyone) isnt enough. "Actions speak louder than words". So to give back to Him, I live the life that we should...or at least I try. (hey. no one is perfect) By loving others, and following Christ is a huge part in showing God you love him. Also taking care of the gift he's given us....LIFE.
For me, God has blessed me with His love in so many different ways that I cannot begin to explain! Many of U who dont know me as a "spiritual" person, I might say, I am not ashame to speak of the love that I am still growing for our Lord! He has shown me time and time again that He never abandons me! Whether I am going through the worst or the happiest! I see it eveyday when I wake up to the thought of Him granting me another day of precious life! Knowing that I have a mother who cares so much about me, a family who is by my side through whatever I may choose in life and the smile that I carry because I know my Father in Heaven is watching over me! The fact that I have an opportunity to be in this very Theology class which I love, shows me that He is true to His every promise! Dont get me wrong, I do have my down falls in life! I do have those moments where I just wanna give up but honestly, there's always, somehow, that open window I see Him looking through at me telling me to leave it all to Him and NOT ONCE has He ever let me down when I let my struggles go and leave it in His hands! I see that when I lift my troubles to Him, my life slowly gets easier and less hazy for me to keep walking!
I think that I've shown God's love by being there for people who need comfort sometimes! By giving them a listening ear even when I dont know what to say to them! I show it by not being ashamed of talking sincere about Him and His works and the fact that I serve ONLY HIM!!! By taking persecutions from people and not trying to fight back that'll only make it worse. I stay faithful by going to mass every sunday...sometimes saturday night to listen to His word and trying to live life that way...His way! Also, everytime that I am in deep conversation with someone and there's a problem somewhere, I always say "let God take care of it", or "God's will be done". I just never go through something without making God a part of it or at least think of how He would deal with it! I dont know, I love the life that God has given me and I wouldnt trade it for anything and I think that because I see it that way, I show love for Him and appreciation and I dont grumble about it....well...most of the time! =D
WWWWHHHHOOOOAAAA!!!! I LOVE THESE QUES-CHUNS THEY'RE GGGGREAT!FIRST I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT GOD HAS SHOWN SO MUCH LOVE FOR ME SINCE DAY ONE AND I AM VERY THANKFUL FOR EVERYTHING EVEN THOUGH I DON'T REALLY SHOW IT AS MUCH AS I SHOULD. I THINK THAT THE GREATEST LOVE THAT GOD HAS SHOWN ME IS WHEN HE GAVE MY MUDER THE ABILITY TO BRING ME INTO THIS WORLD AND GIVING ME THE GIFT OF LIFE...THUG LIFE...JUST PLAY'N. GOD HAS ALSO GRANTED ME WITH A GREAT MOM WHO HAS SHOWN A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF SUPPORT SINCE THE DAY I CAME OUT OF HER WOMB WEIGHT:7#2OZ HEAD:121/2. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT GOD GAVE ME ONE OF THE GREATEST MOTHERS IN THE WORLD...TEARS COMING OUT OF MY EYES AND RUNNING DOWN MY CHEEKS...NOW I'M LAUGHING HA HA HA HA. MY MOM REALLY LOVES ME UNCONDITIONALLY BECAUSE I PUT HER THROUGH SO MUCH B.S.IN LIFE SUCH AS JOINING GANGS,SMOKING BUD,I MEAN U NAMEIT I DID IT ...AND THROUGH ALL THIS DRAMA S#@TWENT DOWN SHE STILL TRIES HER BEST.
GOD HAS ALSO GRANTED ME WITH GREAT TEACHERS SUCH AS MR. REYES...DO YOU SMELL THAT,IS THAT A SUCKER UPER...OH YEAH AND MY MUDERS 2ND CUZ'N ALEX CASTRO.
I THINK THAT THE WAY THAT EYE PERSONALLY HAVE SHOWN GOD LOVE IS BY GETTING BAPTZED AND RECEIVING FIRST HOLY COMMUNION AND CONFIRMATION. I THINK THAT BY RECEIVING THESE THINGS IT SHOWS THAT I ACCEPT GOD IN MY LIFE AND I THINK IT ALSO SHOWS RESPECT FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR ME...I SEE IT AS A WAY OF JOINING GOD'S GANG.

ok...uhmm lets see..."LOVE!"
awesome...
God gave me the ability to love and the ability to BE loved.
he gave it to everyone and we should all cherish that. deep down inside we feel the love and we cant show it until we have found someone to share it with, that someone cant just be ANYONE! it has to be SOMEONE! "THE ONE"
god has shown his love for me in my life...by letting me understand that love is just more than an action, verb, or saying its a thought, a happy feeling, a suprise. yeah people say oh he shows me his love through the life he gave me and my family and friends but sometimes with my family and friends he shows me how to deal with problems, think for myself, and act on an impulse.
ok personal experience:::...
theres this one person and this person was i had met last year at this one thing. we were ok...i guess i didnt have anything against this person. than some stuff started happening this person led my friend down a wrong path and i got blamed for it..(which was so awesome) anyways...this person just screwed up some stuff...and i forgave this person..yeah i was pissed and i wanted to break her fingers off but i held back(b/c i had a great friend there to pull me away) anyways...this person just kept screwing things up and this person also stole someone from me (not a guy or whatever) just someone important...and im mad...im just trying to hide it or whatever...shake it of and not notice it anymore and im giving it my all to forgive this person..and yet...this person still does whatever and finds some odd way to piss me off.
we should always be appreciative for what we have and what we dont have. that story relates to alot of people...maybe not all of US but alot of people. some are unfortunate and some are just gifted/blessed and well...yeah. we just have to suck it up lifes tough (hahaha).

I think God shows us love in many ways and times we dont realize it. I feel he shows me love through things that i dont understand but yet i know its for the betterment of myself or the people around me. God shows me his love through the people i love and who love me. I find God's love even in the most simple places such as a kiss from my mother or family or a phone i get from an old friend who just wants to catch up. I think people underestimate God's love they feel that if they ask God for something and they dont get the answer that God has forsaken them, but little do they know that, the lack of an answer was the answer. God works in mysterious we just have to look beyond ourselves to see his love and understand that his love is unconditional.
How do i show God's love? I hope I show God's love through my love for others. As i see God's love in the simple things i hope others see my love the same way as well. I show my love to others by just being me and being there for them. I dont know how else i can show my love to others. I dont feel that its just me that has to show love to them but for them to accept the fact that what i am doing is loving and for them to accept is as love. I know i cant give others the world or a million bucks but i know that i can give them my love and friendship and i hope that's enough.
First Part:
Before i never saw the love God had for me in my life, ever really, i don't know why.
then my sister Shayden came. From the moment she was born we knew she was special and that taking care of her would require a lot of our time. We didn't have a long time with her, 10 months to be exact. For a long time i kept questioning God. Why would he send her to us then just take her away so quickly. Because of Shayden my family has gotten so much closer and because of theat i know that it was just part of God's plan. Although Shayden was only with us for a short time, i feel he showed me His love through her and all the struggles that my family and i went through.
Second Part:
To most people, i come off as intimidating and mean. What they don't see is the little goody-goody who i used to be and comes out every now and then. For some reason when i show "God's Love" to others i don't really show it. For me, it's more to myself because i know i did the right thing and i don't care if everyone or no one knows about it. the person who i've showed God's love to probably won't catch it right then and there but eventually they'll see what i've done.
Reflection:
What a deep story!
I guess there really isn't much to reflect on except that the Dad is right. With all the change going on in this world the only thing we can truely rely on is God's never ending love for us.
Wow! There are so many ways that God has shown his love for me. He blessed me with a caring and loving family who is always there for me and always will be. Even though we get crazy and upset with each other, I know God has made it great for us. He has blessed me with the opportunity to go to a great Catholic school where I can grow and develop in His teachings and love through the wonderful teachers here. He gave me a beautiful life and the gift to love myself and others the way that He loved us. He died for my sins on the cross so that I might one day enter heaven and be with Him for eternity. God has countlessly shown His love to me and I am so grateful even though at times I may not even notice or be thankful.
In return for God showing me His acts of love, I have shown God's love to others. I try to help out my parents and my siblings. I TRY to act responsible when I'm with my siblings. I help out my friends even though I may be busy. I try to offer my love and friendship to everyone like God did, but hey I'm only human.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:
Last year a few rumors were spread about me that really hurt my feelings. I would have never expected things like that to be said about me because I have never done anything to anyone at this school. It killed me to hear from people that the person who said started it was one of my closest friends. I didn't believe it at first until more people told me. It felt like this person I had trusted had stabbed a knife through my heart a million times; that's how bad it hurt. I confronted this person and yelled and didn't even want to hear his/her side of the story. He/she denied it, but I just couldn't handle it and I ended our friendship. Over a couple of months, however, I came to realize how studpid I was being. I wasn't showing God's love or forgiveness. I wasn't even sure if it was that person, I just wanted to blame someone...however, we made up and are now closer than ever...:)
The story about the Farmer's Wise Words was really nice. You can really say a lot just by not saying much. It really inspired me that even though he and his family were going through hard changes he knew God would ALWAYS love him and that was the only thing that would never change. I think that that philosophy is a very good thing to live by. Everyone should adopt this philosophy. ESTA LATERS! CIAO!

God has shown his love to me by blessing me with more than i need. with such a great family. and i honestly think without God's love that my mom wouldn't be alive today. my mom doesn't know this but i was looking for pictures one day for school and i came across letters she had wrote to me and my siblings incase the worst happened to her. i read what she had wrote to me and i just started to cry. Because she honestly thought she wasn't going to live. and i think that without God's love that she wouldn't be here with me today.
I think i have shown God's love by being grateful and appreciating my mom more than ever. By not taking advantage of how the things we cherish most can just be taken away by us at any moment. well my neighbors are literally family. it's my mom's brothers and then my grandma so i have shown God's love to them by putting up with some of my crazy cousins and aunties and uncles but that's what makes them great. 'cause we can always act weird around each other and not be all judgemental and stuff.
God has shown his love to me through the things that i have been blessed with. Im not perfect, yet no one is and i have my fair share of faults, but i thank God for a life that I'm content with. Many people live their lives waiting for the day that they die..but honestly. i have the 3 main things that i need in mine..
my FAMILY. my best friends and PAUL<3
really, i can live on this alone..
(*and food of course!:P)
At some points in my life, i thought god turned his back on me, but i realized that i had turn my back on God...and this was his way of getting me through everything.
I have tried to remember the commandments, most of all the Greatest commandment that we should love others as we love ourselves.
i think that even if you arent catholic, this goes for everyone.
Humans are social, loving beings that should abide by these rules.
When i have people that turn their back on me or have done me wrong, i try to remember what our Church teaches us, but i mean, I am only human..i do commit sins. But, i try my best to find the best in the person(s) that i dont care for. TO fully love you must love yourself, to do this you must love yourself first. SO, before loving GOd, you must appreciate yourself. By doing this first, you can fully and unconditionally love God.
This story was really sweet. It is true..the one thing that doesnt change in a world full of downfalls and mishaps, God's love is unconditional and always there.
How has God shown me love?
by giving me a beautiful family, making me a talented athlete, and making me a loving boyfriend to a wonderful girlfriend, that's how i knows he loves me.
How do i show God's love?
i think i show God's love by being a good friend to others & giving them advice when they need it, trying to help them out.
i think that God's love is all around me. all around us! his lengths of touching us and loving us never ends, no matter the distance , not matter the travel, he will always be with us. i think alot of young catholics today do not feel the touch of God or even his prsence, because they are not allowing him to, and they also do not put there minds in trying to reach him. even the people who pray to god, like right before the test, you know that you didn't study, and you will ask God the most stupid bribe, "please God, o God, help me get an 'A'." first of all your asking for something big and you didn't do any work to get it. i think these people who do this also have a hard time to see God's graces.
i think the way i show God's love to my neighbor is just really basic things. things that show why chivalry is not dead. i say this is becasue i don't know my neighbors around my house. so the next thing was school. well basically i would open the door(s) for the ladies or teachers, except for you SIR cause your a guy. or i would give up my seat for others, but i really hate it when people steal my seat.
*man i almost forgot to do this part - well i thought the story was pretty good and very straight foward. even with the changes around the family, god's love would always be there and would always guide the family. so basically the dad's comment was 'legit'.
....."I FEEL IT IN MY FINGA'S,
I FEEL IT IN MY TOES....."

Wow. God has helped me in a lot of ways. Ways I can't even imagine. He has helped me to love when I thought I couldn't. He has helped me care when I just wanted to through all the cares I had away. In one particular instance He has helped me grow a better and stronger relationship with my little sister.
When Adri got pregnant I didn't want to talk to her, I didn't even want to look at her. She was disgusting to me. I hated the fact that she did that to herself at such a young age. If I ever said I hated someone, she was it. As time went on, I learned that I was wasting my time on hating her when I could love her and be there for her like God does for us! Because of the love God has shown me in the last nine months i adore my sister. She is my hero, and my best friend. I don't know where I would be if she hadn't been there for me.
I can honestly say that God has worked miracles in my life and I thank Him for that each and every day.
I show love to God by being the person I am today. I am not perfect and I never will be, but I am at the top of my game. I love my sisters and my family. I love school and dancing. I help out the community and all that it stands for. I have done alot for God and most of it I can't say. (Not because I don't want, I just don't know how to explain it.)
I just thank Him for what and who I am today!!

1 - God has shown me love by giving me all that i need in life, and I am very thankful for it. He shows me his love by keeping me safe all these past 17 years of my life. He has shown me love by giving me a good family, a roof over my head, and food to eat on the table every day. He shows us love in so many ways, those are just a few.
2 - I show love to God by: going to church, learning about him (in theology) and taking care of the body he gave me.
3 - Interesting story. I think the moral of it is that we should do our share of work, get through the day & in the end even though things look really bad we have to remember that God loves us. He will always be there no matter what & we can always look to him through the really hard times.

1 - God has shown me love by providing me with everything i need in life. He put a roof over my head, food on the table everyday, and kept me safe for all these 17 years. He has also shown me his love by giving me a good family for the support i need.
2 - I can show God love by: going to church weekly, learning about him ( in theology class), and acknowledging him by praying everyday.
3 - Interesting story. I think the moral of it is that, even while we are going through really hard times in our lives in the end god is still there, and he will always be there for us when we need his support.
God has shown me his love in so many ways. From the day i was born up to this day. God gave me a great life with a great family and friends. i know that God loves me because i believe he listens to me. Every night i pray to God for my family and my friends' safety and for good health and God listens. Nobody else in this world could give me those two important things in my life but God.
How do i show my love to God? i show my love to God by being there for others. If you know well enough, you know that it's hard for me to say "no" to others. (not peer-pressure). i always help those people who need my help. I also don't hold grudges against anyone and i've learned to forgive. i know thats what God wants me to be. But i also know i could do more than that and i will do more things to serve my God, maybe today, tomorrow or in the future. But for sure i will.
The story was really good. Sometimes we only realize how much God loves when things are not going well because even though things are not going the way we want them to go, there's always something to be thankful for. God gave us so many good things in life and we are thankful for them but we should also be ready to recieve the bad things. For me, i see those bad things that come along as God's blessing in disguise.
