Love is a word that we throw around alot in our world today. We use it so non-chalantly that it is losing its meaning. If you had to explain what love is to someone who had no idea what it was, where would you begin? How would you help convey to them what love is?

Well first, I would say that there isnt a correct meaning for "love"! There are so many different interpratations on love! There is love for your parents. Love for your dog. Love for your sisters, friends, relatives so on so forth. But when it comes down to "love" for someone in particular, the subject is so sensative that it has to be treated with care!
This is how I would explain it! Love is when you see someone past their faults...not care about their past and never count their mistakes! Love is when you can just sit around with them and talk about anything and everything and enjoy every second of it! Love is when you cant stop smiling because theyre all you can think about! Love is when you feel helpless because you cant do anything about how you feel! It's when you look into their eyes and find absolute peace! It's when you spend hours on the phone, even when there's nothing said! No matter how bad they make you mad...you'll always find it in your heart to forgive them! Total UNCONDITIONAL love for who they are! Look at each day as a gift to care for them a bit more than yesterday! When you say silly lines like, "I breathe for you", "I'd walk a thousand miles just to see you smile"! Or when you know you're going to see them, you start fixing yourself and worry about how you look! When you can honestly say that you do not get any kind of jealousy within yourself when you see them with someone else! When you know they're sick and you wish that instead of them being sick, you would be the one to take the suffering! To actually be able to give yourself up, as in, sacrafice your own life to save theirs! When you pray for them more than yourself! When you deny all hurtful things they cause you to feel! Love is indeed never proud! Love is only and truly felt when God wills it!!!
Love is love! There is no measure to it! We should all love as if though we look through the eyes of Christ! Amen! :D
Wow. that's a toughie. I believe that many people are naive about it. I honestly wouldn't know how to explain what love is to someone, most especially if its the Romantic love. How can you explain it to someone else if you can't really explain it to yourself. (We can only make attempts.) I think love is just something you have to feel. You can't pull out a dictionary and expect to understand it on the spot. Nor can you have a list of guidlines to compare your feelings. It's different for everyone. (at least that's what i think)
I guess you'd have to experience it for yourself. What I can say for sure is that you have to love not only the other person, but you must love yourself too. (be honest with yourself) And not only should you love them for their good things, but also for their flaws. You must accept them for all that they are.
I also think that if you love them you would want to be with them because they make you feel "complete" (which may sound cliche), and not because being with them makes you "look good".
Be with them because of who they are, not because of the social standards.
There are so many other things that I haven't even covered. Love is a complex emotion that is so overwhelming, not everything about can be touched within a few paragraphs, it takes time.
Personally i dont even know where to begin on the topic of love. I myself can't define it like I used to, but if i were to start somewhere I would begin with friendship. Friendship is a perfect example because it is based on trust. Being able to Trust someone is a great kind of love. Another kind of love is probably a love between parents and their children. That kind of love is an unconditional love. That kind of love is like the love between God and his children. The last type of love that I know is the one that I think that I can relate to but I guess I dont really know fully. That is a love between a man and a woman. I guess I dont really know it fully because I'm just a boy who thinks he's in love with a girl.
But if i were to explain to a person what love is if they had never known it if it slapped them in the face. I would tell them a love is a love with trust and without barriers to tell the other what the other is thinking. Love is shared.

on the real, i really dont think that there is a perfect or specific meaning for love. i totally agree with CIANNA that love is just so unconditional and so out there because of the fact that there are many forms of love. i truly believe that the two greatest forms of love is the love from you parents and the love of God placed upon you. the other forms of love is basically just a higher and much greater extent of care for someone. "like hey i love my wife i want to live with her forever, argue/fight, divorce, and now guess what.....................you hate their stinkin' guts." but the love form parents and the love from God can never be taken away from divorce papers or hatred, it will always be there. i also hate it when kids or adults are like i hate my parents, BULLS#^t, you know you love them, cause without them i wouldnt have to here there asses whine, so kids love and appreciate what your parents do for you.

Love...now thats complicated.I dont think love really has one meaning. If you go around and ask what love is not every person will have the same response. When people first hear the word love they automatically think that its the love for their boyfriend/ girlfriend or husband/wife, but when i first hear the word love i think of the love i have for my family. Family love is unconditional, even though you've done something wrong your family will always love you. And thats a type of love everyone longs for from others aside from their family. Love is being able to accept another person as a whole, with their good side and bad, with their success and failures, loving another reguardless.

There is the love between you and your family & friends. They are people who will love you no matter what and they love you for the person you are. You may fight with your mom/dad, your sister or brother or your best friends BUT no matter how bad the fight is...their love for you will never change. They help you to grow and become the person you are or the person your going to be...they teach you what love is just by being there for you. That's love.
God's love is just the same. We sin almost every single day of our lives but he doesn't judge us. He's just a very forgiving guy, just waiting for us to ask for forgivness. That's how much he loves us.
When you love someone you love that person for the person they are. You look past their flaws and learn to deal with them. You don't dare to change the person so they could be your dream person...you learn to love every single thing about them.
I think it's love when everytime you see him/her* you get butterflies in your tummy.. It's having both your good and bad days together and dealing with it. I think it's love when you are able to rough the day together! Even if he/she makes you mad, even if he/she is being silly...you still learn to deal because you love that person!

well. I'd probably start by telling them all the different types of love.
the love between a family, the love between friends, and the love between two people who are more than just friends.
Love basically is what you believe it to be, but it's hard to really know what it is.
Love is when no matter what stupid thing you did your family and friends still love you.
Love is when you would die for that significant other, you would give up everything in your life just to be with them and make them happy.
Love isn't just the butterflies or the fact that your parents let you stay out. It's so much more.
It's almost inexplainable.
There's no exact definition to love, it's simply what you believe it to be and so much more.
Love comes in many forms... but all have the same meaning.. love is unconditional. you have the love for yourself, parental love,friendship, passionate love and the love for God... we are by nature created to love. we feel incomplete without love. but in order to fill that emptiness inside is caring relationships. like friendship, you show them how much you love them by supporting them helping them when time gets rough... as a christian love is the center of meaning in our lifestyle. we decide to love and we must choose it as the focus in our life.... LOVE never ends...
i think that love is very complicated. There's no way we could define love by itself. But if we were to explain what love is to someone who does not know it we should begin with respect. we respect our parents, our family, our friends, and even ourselves because of one reason and that is love. Respecting someone is a perfect way of showing that you love them. But i guess a person should experience it to know what it really is because love involves so many emotions and feelings.

Love is a "word" we tend to throw around alot. Wheather its being said to our family, people in relationships, or just for fun, but who really knows. We see love between parents and their children. This love is known as unconditional love. we also see love in friendships we have with other people.People who care about us and how we feel and who respect us for who we are inside. Temperary love is what I call when people in working relationships tell each other. This kind of love may work into marraige or it can die out. But the true love is what I call when individuals seek it in christ. there have been cases where parents and their children dont really get along or when friends turn their back when you really need them or even when you lose hope in relationships but there will always be love between you and christ because christ will not turn his back no matter what your history is or what your problems are.

Love is simply precious in every form and way. There is no real way to explain what love really is because its so complex. Every person has their view and opinions about love; good or bad. And of course, we lose sight of what it really is. I believe, that no one could ever explain love simply in words only by expression. We all want to love and be loved because its most definitly the greatest feeling in the world; being loved by your parents, sister, brother, friend, teacher, BOYFRIEND. There are many different forms of love, as we all know. Love towards/from your bestfriend, family, friends, etc. Love=caring; i strongly believe undoubtly. Why? Because you can't be able to love someone and not care for them at the same time. Caring for someone so much is almost like loving them. True love versus Puppy Love; we all get confused. How do we know if its real? Is it real? Maybe? We all dont know and it could never be confidently explained, but we can all try. Puppy love is a love that we "think" is love, but really isnt, its just a mind-set to that "I LOVE HIM/HER" but at the end of the day its like "OH NEVERMIND". True love? Does it exist? YES IT DOES. how do i know? because i've met true love. i've seen true love. true love is when you would give up that person that you love with everything that you have, so that he/she can be happy; w/ or without you. Unconditional Love is amazing. It can come from you friend, spouse, family member, etc. Unconditional love is when that person loves you even for you faults and mistakes. Although, you make a mistake or make that person angry, at the end of the day your still loved by him/her. why? because no matter what you do or dont do; it doesnt change who you really are. Make sense? I believe so. which also defines "love is blind". no matter how much you mess up or screw up in life. that person that loves you doesnt see that... only the good and great things you are.
Love is most definitly not perfect whatsoever. Love hurts. We fall inlove and then fall out and that hurts. Getting your heartbroken that hurts, but then you STILL love that person. & thats what hurts the most about it. Love, really, is a big mystery NOT waiting to be solved. I mean, if we all knew what love really is by definition. Then... theres no mystery or interest in it. For example, Love can be like cracker jacks. Everytime you open box you get a prize so you keep buying cracker jacks to see what the prize is. Sometimes, its not what you expected and sometimes you find that perfect prize. Just like love, you get to know a person to see what they're all about. Sometimes its good or bad. So you keep trying to find that perfect prize. Did that make sense?
Love = Life.
we all live and breathe love. we dont realize it but really think about it. Love is what keeps our life going.
